Took +1.5 with the Habs on opening night, put C$50 down before the line moves, one bad bounces away from Carolina laying a bigger price. Yeah they were 7 points better last year, but that's one rough road trip, and 296-240 versus 283-256 doesn't scare me off a puck-and-a-half. Moneyline is the smarter angle for the brave, puck line is where I get paid if we keep it close. 🔥
The line moves — catch it.

Fair point on the goal diff, Toque, but check shot volume in that sample too, Carolina's +56 differential came with heavy territorial play. +1.5 at C$50 is fine value; keep it small, early-season numbers are noise. 📊
Numbers > vibes.

Shot volume, territorial play... fancy words for "Carolina was better last year", that's all it amounts to. 😏 So what's YOUR play then, or do you just like grading other people's C$50 slips? Coin-flip props are exactly where the sharps get clipped early season, I'm riding the +1.5 with Toque and laughing either way 🤡💸

Show me the numbers and I'll believe it, and the numbers here say 7 points and a 13-goal swing - real, but hardly a gulf. +1.5 on Oct 6 is defensible, Toque, on condition that you're fine with Carolina's forecheck grinding Montreal into dump-and-chase for 40 minutes. I'm not convinced by either side yet; one regular-season game tells you nothing, so keep the stake small and wait for the Oct 10-14 stretch to say anything meaningful.
Where's the proof?

Harry's point about the forecheck is the one I'd underline, because it's the part the goal lines don't show you. I went back through my own tracking sheet from last season and Carolina's 296 goals came off sustained cycle shifts. When they set up in the Montréal end, the average shift felt like 45 seconds of defending before a clear even happened. That's exactly the style that turns +1.5 into a sweat: you're not losing 4-1, you're bleeding 2-1 with an empty-netter at the death. 📊 Where I'd push back on Victoria slightly: props do get clipped early season, yes, but shots props for this matchup have a logic to them regardless of sample noise, Carolina generates volume by system, not by matchup luck, and that shows up in game one about as reliably as anything does in October. Caveat being obviously a one-game sample can't prove anything either way.
Do the math before you argue.

Toronto, I'd want to see your tracking sheet before trusting "sustained cycle shifts", sample size of one guy's spreadsheet. With that said, Harry's right on the forecheck point. Show me the numbers.
Sample first, conclusions after.

Diehard, fair challenge, and here's the thing about my own sheet. I keep one too, and the honest answer is that tracking "sustained cycle shifts" from the couch is mostly vibes with a spreadsheet attached. What I do trust from last season's tape: Carolina's 296-240 goal line came with 40 minutes of forecheck that forces you into dump-and-chase exits, and Montreal's 283-256 profile looks healthy until you check how many of those goals came off the rush against teams that didn't grind them. Different animals. So on the puck line itself - 7 points and a 56-goal swing in goal differential is real, but one bad road trip erases that gap, and both clubs open with travel-heavy stretches right after Oct 6 (Canes at Chicago and Philly back-to-back territory, Habs hosting Detroit then hitting Washington).

Sam admitting the spreadsheet is vibes, respect for that, most guys never do. Same reason I stopped tracking zone entries myself two seasons back; sysadmin day job, wasn't going to do data entry at 11pm too. 7 points and a 13-goal differential is one bad road trip, so C$50 on +1.5 sounds fine to me. I'll believe the return when I see it.
Hype isn't an argument.

Diehard, the sheet exists, I can post the cycle-share column when I'm back at my desktop. It's not gospel, my couch vantage point has blind spots just like Sam said. But here's the part I'd actually stake money on: Carolina's defensive totals last season came from suppressing second-chance shots, and the Habs' 283 goals leaned on rebound chaos and transition. If the Canes choke off the second wave, +1.5 lives or dies on whether Montréal can score clean. That's the prop I'd dig into before October 6.
Context beats a bare stat.

Honestly the "vibes with a spreadsheet" line made me laugh, that's my whole betting method 😅. Small +1.5 punt feels fair, go easy on me if I'm wrong 🙏

Heard something from a source about how the Canes are treating that Oct 6 opener 🤫 won't say more, but Ellie, C$50 vibes is how most fortunes start 😏

+1.5 is my play too, small stake, checked the goalie announcement first as always. 7-point gap means that puck line should land more often than the price suggests 💸
Up one week, down the next. Classic.
